FAQ

  • Where does your name come from?

Kia Ora is a Māori greeting used by all who call New Zealand home - “hello”. I choose to call my company Kia Ora Pie Co for its more literal translation from Te Reo Māori (the name for the Māori language) to English which is to “wish the essence of life” upon someone. Sharing a meal and cooking for people has been one of my favourite ways to show those I love my appreciation for them.

From Frozen: Preheat oven (or air fryer) to 190°C/375°F. Place frozen pie on a baking sheet and into preheated oven. Cook for 35 to 40 minutes, or until heated to an internal temperature of 74°C/165°F.

From personal experience, I'd suggest waiting 5 minutes before digging into your pie, it will be HOT!

  • Can I use an air fryer to reheat your pies?

Yep! Just use our regular reheating instruction, but keep an eye on the crust and if it starts to get a little too crispy looking, cover it loosely with parchment or foil.

  • Why meat pies?

A better question would be “why NOT meat pies?”. OK, but seriously, they are 8oz of buttery pastry, meat and/or vegetables in rich sauces and most even have gooey cheese, what's not to love?

  • Do you make sweet pies?

I’m already too sweet as it is, so I have chosen to avoid making sweet pies at the moment.

  • Are you a dog or cat person?

That’s a tough one…… My partner, Jon, and I currently share our home with both and we love them equally. Although, ask anyone who knows me well and they’d say I am a “crazy cat person”, so let's just say my personality is more similar to that of a cat.

I know have to take this opportunity to introduce you to our furry roommates

WALTER (Canine) the airedale terrier who’s bark demands fear but is afraid of everything from the smallest of amazon packages to the measuring tape, honestly we have no idea. His hobbies include whining until he gets what he wants, backcountry canoe trips and camouflaging himself in the corner of the backyard and refusing to come when called to the point where his mum was convinced he got out and was lost ... .what a jerk.

DALLAS (Feline) the black cat who must have been an escape artist in a past life. His hobbies include meowing at 5am and breaking out of the house to chill with his canine friends and to beat up any other cat in a 1km radius. Sadly, his brutish ways have gotten him banished to the grandparents for some self reflection. No self reflection has been done to date.

MILO (Feline) the siamese rescue barn cat who is as baffled by his origin story as his mum and dad. His hobbies include staring at you with his tongue out, not knowing how to retract his claws, growling at Walter, sleeping on your hip and holding on for dear life if you try to move. By far the most chill and cuddly of our roommates, what a good boy.
